This year’s Poinsettia event ‚Magic Stars‘ will take place on November 11 and 12 in the Netherlands. ‘Magic Stars’ is a common event for German and Dutch growers taking place for the fifth time already. In its new form as one common event it will offer a perfect platform for the exchange of professional information.
The whole range of 45 commercial Selecta Poinsettia varieties and several test varieties will be presented. Richard Petri, Head of Marketing and Product Management of Selecta: ‘Magic Stars stands for a knowledge pool in a relaxed atmosphere where producers can learn a lot about our varieties and where they can get tips for the cultivation of Poinsettias. Furthermore, it offers a platform for the exchange of experience and for getting new inspirations.
Another highlight will be the possibility to visit as well important Dutch Poinsettia growers.
‚Magic Stars‘ will take place at Handelskwekerij M. Kregting in Bemmel in the Netherlands near the German border. M. Kregting has already been active as rooting station for Selecta for many years. 2,6 million Poinsettias, 2,5 million Pelargoniums, more than one million Osteospermum as well as many other species as for example Impatiens New Guinea are rooted there on a surface of 3 hectares. Currently 800.000 Poinsettia finished plants are produced in natural short-day on mobile tables at this modern production site built 3 years ago. On both days of the event, we will offer you interesting speeches on current topics. Louise Labuschangne of Real IPM, Kenya will talk about the topic „biopesticides/biological solutions“ and Robert Wacker of Floramedia, NL will speak about „the power of packaging in the sales and communication process”. In addition to the proven varieties of the Selecta Poinsettia assortment, several novelties will be presented during the event.
Varieties of the market-leading series Christmas Feelings® are real ‘allround-talents’ for all pot sizes. From now on, the novelty Feelings Wonder will join this series having a sensationally bright red colour. It convinces – same as all other varieties of the Feelings family – by a huge density per sqm, a very healthy root system and a very good branching – the perfect variety for all producers.
The Christmas Beauty series - especially interesting for retailers and florists with its dense, star-shaped bracts – now includes two new and very nice varieties in special colours. Christmas Beauty Princess has a spectacular colour in apricot, red and pink getting darker from the center to the margin of the bracts. Christmas Beauty Marble is a new variety with wonderful marble coloured bracts. Moreover, the Christmas Beauty series will get further support by the two testing varieties SK 125 with cinnamon coloured bracts and SK 141 as a darker version of the variety Christmas Beauty Queen in pink-orange-red colours.
Another novelty will be presented in the category „shapes & colours“: Christmas Sweet Burgundy. This variety has small, burgundy red bracts and shows a compact growth habit. It is especially suitable for the production of Mini Poinsettias.
On the classic, red Poinsettia sector, the variety Christmas Aurora has been very successfully established on the market within the last two years. Christmas Aurora is suitable for all pot sizes and stands for simple and flexible production. The modern bract form as well as late maturing of the cyathias offer a high sales potential and a long sales period. Thanks to its stable shoots it can also be very well transported. Two more testing varieties showing high potential will be presented: SK 130 is an orange-red variety showing good branching and a more open growth habit thus being less susceptible for botrytis during cultivation and transport. SK 131 is a vigorous variety with bright red bracts and a lot of cyathias which is also suitable for bigger pot sizes with bright red bracts and a lot of cyathias. Due to a reaction time of 8,5 weeks, this variety can be produced for the main sales period without artificial short-day.
